THE CRSA SPRINT CAR TOUR JOINS IN ON THE FUN THIS SUNDAY AT UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY, JOINING FULL REGULAR PROGRAM
VERNON, NY- The 2015 season continues to roll along this Sunday evening with another big show that sees the return of the CRSA Sprint Series after a several year absence, joining a full show NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing featuring the Stampede Steakhouse Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, Open Sportsman, and Pro Street Stocks. The action packed July 26 program will be presented by Parks Paving, Rasmussen Rents, and Broedel Energy.
In the headline Stampede Steakhouse Modifieds, Matt Sheppard continues to be the point leader but second place point man Pat Ward narrowed the gap to 31 points with his popular win this past Sunday. Larry Wight sits just six markers behind his teammate in third while Mike Mahaney and Vic Coffey round out the top five. Defending track champion Stewart Friesen sits just four points out of the top five as he is in the sixth spot ahead of Mike Bowman, Matt Hulsizer, Chris Mackey, and Tim Fuller.
In the New York State NASCAR All-American Series, Sheppard is third in the rankings followed by Ward in fourth. Other UR regulars in the top 20 include Wight (7th), Mahaney (10th), and Friesen (17th).
Rocky Warner used another late race pass this past weekend to score his fifth win of the season and add to his division leading point total. Despite having a four win deficit to point leader Warner, Matt Janczuk remains in striking distance just 21 point back in the runner-up position. AJ Filbeck sits in the third spot with Cody Clark and Alan Fink filling out the top five spots. Positions six through ten are held by Glenn Forward, Chris Cunningham, Nick Krause, Cory Barker, and Rocco Leone.
The Open Sportsman standings show Steve Way leading the way, just 18 points ahead of Claude Hutchings, Jr. Rounding out the top five spots are Jeremy Vunk, Heath Carney, and Jack Miller followed by Craig Pope, Randy Shantel, Mike Richmond, Tom Tophoven, and Lucas Heintz.
Mike Welch scored his third win of the season this past Sunday, which allowed him to expand his point margin even if just slightly. Welch now leads Glenn Forward by 23 points with third place point man Mark Effner 32 points back. Chris Carr, AJ Digsby, Travis Welch, Gus Hollner, Bill Trexler III, Bill Mason, and Ed Ostrander round out the top 10.
The popular CRSA Sprint Car Series makes a much anticipated return to the Vernon oval this Sunday as part of its 10th Anniversary tour. While they utilize the lower horsepower 305 power plant instead of the 360 powered cars that frequent Utica-Rome during the summer, it doesnโt mean their racing is any less exciting. During past visits, the CRSA Sprints have put on some stellar shows and this Sunday should prove to be no different. A quick glance at their point standings shows Kyle Smith leading the way over Josh Pieniazek, Dalton Herrick, Chad Miller, Brett Jaycox, Josh Flint, Thomas Radivoy, Brian Kummell, John Matrafailo, and Scott Goodrich. Many of these drivers are expected to be on hand this Sunday plus many more.
Gates open at 3:30 p.m. this Sunday with racing starting at 6 p.m. Adult admission is $15 for general admission with Students, Seniors, and Military admission at $12. Kids 16 and under are admitted for free into the grandstand area.
Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 on the eastern outskirts of the Village of Vernon, just minutes from the New York State Thruway.
