ONE ON ONE SPECTATOR RACES RETURN TO UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY THIS SUNDAY, JULY 19, ADDING TO AN ALREADY ACTION PACKED SHOW
VERNON, NY- This Sunday, July 19, Mike Lalonde Electrical and Perfex Corporation present another night of action packed of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing that will feature a full show of Stampede Steakhouse Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, Open Sportsman, and Pro Street Stocks. Also scheduled is the popular One on One Spectator races that gives fans a chance to takes laps around the legendary Vernon oval.
This past Sunday, Matt Sheppard showed why he is the point leader as he launched himself through the field to score his fifth win of the season. His wins havenโt come easy however as he has had to fend off a talented field of competitors that includes defending champion Stewart Friesen, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Mike Mahaney, Vic Coffey, Mike Bowman, Matt Hulsizer, Danny Varin, and more. Sheppard leads Ward in the point standings while Wight, Mahaney, and Coffey round out the top five in the standings. Sheppard also is the leading Utica-Rome Speedway driver in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series New York State standings as he sits in the second spot in the rankings.
In their first full season of competition at Utica-Rome Speedway, the 602 Sportsman have pu.t on some great displays of racing so this year. Four time winner Rocky Warner is the current point leader as he leads two time victor AJ Filbeck by a narrow margin. Matt Janczuk and Alan Fink, each with a single win apiece, are third and fourth in the standings while Cody Clark fills out the top five in the standings.
After winning this past weekend, Steve Way again finds himself in the point lead in the Open Sportsman but it is only by two points. Claude Hutchings Jr. is in the runner-up spot in the rankings followed by defending champion Jeremy Vunk, Jack Miller, and Heath Carney.
In the Pro Street Stocks, two-time winner Mike Welch is the current point leader over five time feature winner Glenn Forward. Mark Effner, Sundayโs winner Chris Carr, and AJ Digsby round out the top five positions. On a weekly basis, the Pro Street Stocks are one of the most competitive and entertaining races of the evening.
For the fans that have always wondered what it would be like to take a competitive lap around the Utica-Rome Speedway, this Sunday is your chance with the return of One on One Spectator races. All that is needed is a valid driverโs license, a registered and insured street vehicle, a helmet, and a pit pass.
Adult grandstand admission is set at $13 while children 16 and under are free. Race time is at 6 p.m. with gates opening at 3:30 p.m.
Located on Route 5 just east of the village of Vernon and easily accessible from the New York State Thruway, Utica-Rome Speedway races every Sunday throughout the summer.
