VERNON, NY – Mother Nature’s constant war on Utica-Rome Speedway continued on Tuesday afternoon as the speedway is forced to cancel the Tuesday night Pre-Game Kickoff event for the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, Fall Championship Sportsman Series as well as the Cole Cup for the 360 Sprint Cars.

The forecast Tuesday called for 100 percent chance of precipitation with another 90 percent chance this evening. With such a dismal prediction by multiple weather outlets, the decision was made to pull the plug early to allow people to save time and money by not traveling out on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately the event will not be made up.

“We just can’t win,” stated track owner Bill Shea. “It’s a tough year. We’ve lost nearly all of our big events to rain. We were really looking forward to tonight, but with the expected heavy rains there is just no way for us to get this one in. We were hoping to wake up and see a change in the weather. That didn’t happen so we are forced to pull the plug.”

Due to the numerous amount of rainouts in 2018, the speedway has decided to add one more racing event to the schedule on Saturday, October 27. The Monster Mash will feature the DIRTcar Sportsman and well as the Pro Stocks. They’ll be headlined by a program for Monster Trucks as well as trick or treating in the pits for the kids with a Halloween Party to follow at the Utica-Rome Speedway Club.
