Kids Night featuring Backpack Giveaway highlights another night of high speed entertainment this Sunday night at Utica-Rome Speedway
VERNON, NY- With the 2018 school season approaching, that means it is also time for the annual Bobby Page Foundation Backpack giveaway for some lucky kids in attendance this Sunday, August 12, at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Excell Motorsports and Parks Paving presents Kids Night that will also include big wheel races, bike giveaways, and more for kids in addition to the weekly high speed action on the big half-mile oval. The DirtTrackDigest.com 358-Modifieds, Broedel Energy Sportsman, Ted’s Body Shop Pro Stocks, Rookie Sportsman, and Open Sportsman will all be in action this Sunday evening.
For the third consecutive year, the Bobby Page Foundation will giveaway backpacks to 55 lucky kids during intermission this Sunday to help prepare them for the upcoming school year. The Bobby Page Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life to the less fortunate children the in the community. The family and friends of Bobby Page felt it very important to carry on the true spirit of Bobby, who was taken at the young age of 25 after a very tough battle with cancer. Just 12 points separate the top five in the DirtTrackDigest.com 358-Modifieds with the season rapidly coming to a close, and this Sunday could play a pivotal role in deciding who will become the 2018 Utica-Rome Speedway champion. Pat Ward is currently the point leader followed closely by Billy Dunn, Bobby Varin, Marc Johnson, and Jeremy Wilder. Just outside the top five are Rocky Warner, Bobby Herrington, Billy Whittaker, Lance Willix, and Jack Lehner. In weekly action, Matt Sheppard, Ward, Dunn, Varin, and Erick Rudolph have all seen victory lane.
In Broedel Energy Sportsman action, defending champion Matt Janczuk finds himself leading the standings with Kyle Inman, Charlie Tibbitts, AJ Filbeck, Dave Moyer, Chris Cunningham, Rocco Leone, AJ Miller, Stephen Denton, and Mark Effner. Janczuk has three wins to his credit with Dave Marcuccilli has two victories while Filbeck and Kevin Root have one each.
The Ted’s Body Shop Pro Stocks standings shows a logjam at the top of the rankings, with Travis Welch, Mike Welch, and Shane Henderson all tied for the point lead. Bill Knapp and Mike Kazlauskas round out the top five. Travis Welch and Pete Stefanski each have two victories while Mike Welch and Rich Crane have on apiece.
The Open Sportsman have been added to this Sunday’s event for the first time since the 2016 season, while the Rookie Sportsman will also be in action.
Adult admission for this Sunday’s entertaining event will be just $13 for adults with Seniors, Students, and Military admitted for $10. Children under 16 are free to the grandstands. Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4:30 p.m. Racing is set to begin at 7 p.m.
