Practice Off for May 2, Opening Night a Go for May 6
VERNON, NY – The Utica-Rome Speedway has been yet again forced to cancel its planned practice session for this coming Wednesday, May 2. The speedway opener is on as scheduled for this Sunday, May 6.
“We put new clay down in October and we found a couple of soft spots in it while getting ready for practice,” commented track promoter Bill Shea. “The sunshine has definitely helped but we have to cancel the practice scheduled for tomorrow. We just want to give the surface a couple more days to dry out. The nice weather is definitely helping.”
May 6 will be the first full point event for the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds, the Broedel Energy DIRTcar Sportsman and the Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stocks. The Rookie Sportsman will round out the PICK 4 program. The 30-lap DIRTcar 358-Modified feature will serve as the kick-off to the chase for the $5,000 title while the Broedel Energy DIRTcar Sportsman 20-lap main-event starts their $1,000 championship hunt.
One week later the speedway has its first extra distance affair as the New York 100 for the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds visits with the speedway with a lucrative $4,000 top prize on the line for the winner of the 100-lap race on May 13.
The May 6 night of racing is the first PICK 4 program of the season with the racing being presented by Budweiser, VP Race Fuels, and Wilbur-Duck Chevrolet. All of our nightly events labeled PICK 4 will offer all fans a chance to win prizes throughout the racing program. Prizes include, but are not limited to, free passes for future shows, food vouchers for the concession stands, Utica-Rome Speedway gear and much more.
Opening night will get underway at 6 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 3:30 p.m. Tickets on Budweiser, VP Race Fuels, and Wilber-Duck Chevrolet Night for the grandstands are just $13 while it’s $10 for Seniors/Students/Military and kids under the age of 16 are free.
