VERNON, NY- Utica-Rome Speedway has had one of the most lucrative Modified point funds for the past several years with the Modified champion getting a big $8,000 check every year at the year ending awards banquet.  For the 2012 season, track owner Gene Cole has upped the ante as this year’s title winner will be getting a raise of $2,000 for a total of $10,000.  All positions within the top ten will see an increase as well.

After the first place prize of $10,000, the runner up spot will now pay $7,000 which is an increase of $1,000.  Positions third, fourth, and fifth in the final point tally will see an increase of $500 to $4,500, $3,000, and $2,500, respectively.  Positions six through ten will have an increase of $200 each with starting at $1,700 for sixth on down to $1,200 for the tenth spot.

The total increase in the point fund is $5,500, up from $28,600 to $34,100.

If a Utica-Rome Speedway Modified driver were able to take the 2012 Modified Championship, win the American Racer Cup title, and the Race of Champions Modified Series Championship, they could cash in on nearly $40,000 in point money and bonuses.  That is for running one track weekly and a manageable series, making it possible for a competitor to have a very lucrative season.  More information on the American Racer Cup is available at www.dirtmodcup.com while Race of Champions Series information can found at www.rocdirt,com.

Last season, Stewart Friesen made it two in a row as he grabbed his second consecutive championship over Pat Ward, Bobby Varin, Ronnie Johnson, and Todd Burley.  Rounding out the top ten was Alan Johnson, Bill Trexler, Jr., Willy Decker, Ted Lamb, and Paul Jensen.

The Utica-Rome Speedway 2012 season kicks off on Sunday April 29 with the 51st Season Opener featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks.  Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. to start off another exciting season with racing getting underway at 6 p.m.  The complete 2012 season schedule can be found at www.uticaromespeedway.com with more information available by calling (315) 829-4557.
